Although not my genre of choice, I decided to take a chance on this book and I’m glad I did! I wasn’t initially sure of quite what to expect, but perhaps that’s part of the appeal. The Scissors and the Sword, is something a bit different. A wonderfully unique and nuanced take on the mystery genre, with elements of the supernatural skilfully woven in. It’s well paced and thoughtful, with a narrative that is both easy and enjoyable to digest. I highly recommend picking it up.

A great début read from this talented author, artfully blending English and Japanese cultures and showing a clear understanding of both. The mystery central to the book is masterfully woven and keeps you guessing along the whole journey rather than leaving you frustrated at the main characters for not picking up on the clues that you’ve long seen.

Ethan Fox shows obvious promise and I look forward to more great reads!

I’m very glad I took a detour from my usual genres and read this book. Without giving anything away I can say this book was a fantastic surprise to me and went in a direction I wasn’t expecting at all.

Definitely worth a look and I hope the author brings us more.

Ethan juggles the two connected plots well and seamlessly takes you from one story to the other…

Overall I found it captivating and really enjoyed every page.

I love how the story has multiple story lines to think about and ponder as you go from one to the other and you are left wanting to get through the next chapter to find out more from the other story line…

…I hope there are more to come from Ethan Fox, hopefully a series.
